        <description><![CDATA[<p>There is a new filter released with version 4.2.3 called Normal Gradient. It can be applied to any normal map in the Filter Stack interface. It attempts to extract the gradient of the normal map then remove it using a subtraction operation. Addition and intensity controls are also available to increase the gradient, if desired.</p>

<p>Take for example the normal map below, generated by the Light Scan node. The surface was intended to be flat and represent the surface of a fabric. You can see the Normal Radar map displaying the bottom right "lean" of the normals. And the image below showing the normals lit from above in the Material Visualizer. Notice the uneven lighting.</p>

<p>Next you can see the gradient displayed using the Normal Gradient filter.</p>

<p>The gradient is then subtracted from normal map using the filter and the resulting normal map is show below with Normal Radar and lit with the same settings in the Material Visualizer.</p>

<p>Welcome to the new Forums for Rendering Systems. Here you can continue to get support for ShaderMap and future products released by Rendering Systems. All accounts have been transferred from the ShaderMap forums. Log in and take a look around. Most user images were transferred over, but there were some issues on a few accounts. Let me know what you think.</p>

<p>We've moved to a new and more powerful server. Please excuse our dust. If you see anything acting strange on the site, please let me know below.</p>

<p>We are happy to announce two new payment methods. First we have left PayPal for credit card processing and are now using Stripe. The integration is much better and doesn't require customers to leave the site to make a payment. We have also added crypto currencies to the checkout and accept those through the Coinbase Commerce system.</p>

This version changes the name of the SM4 resource directory to SM4_1. <br /><br />
If you are using custom libraries or templates located in the Documents -&gt; ShaderMap -&gt; SM4 directory then you should copy them to the new SM4_1 folder.<br /><br />
Hopefully this stops the persistent crash at startup that has been haunting some users.<br /><br />

Color ID Map from 3D Model now allows Cage Projection. PRO users can now choose to import material diffuse color or have unique material colors assigned.<br /><br />

A number of new features have been added, 2 new maps for PRO users, and bug fixes. <br /><br />
Features<br /><ul><li>Added Smoothing Properties into AO from Displacement Map. Those using LUA scripts should update the indices for map_disp_to_ao2. Export the map to script to see the changes.</li>
<li>Ability to reset node properties to default values. Use the property config button found to the right of the node properties.</li>
<li>Updated the default project layouts to include the new maps, norm to cavity and norm to curve.</li>
<li>Various UI improvements.</li>
</ul>
PRO Features<br /><ul><li>New Map: Normal to Cavity. Convert tangent space normals to cavity maps.</li>
<li>New Map: Normal to Curve. Convert tangent space normals to curve maps. Includes a number of options to export curves to various channels.</li>
<li>Ability to save node property values as default. Seperate option to save property page as default page.</li>
<li>Ability to reset node properties to saved property values. Use the property config button found to the right of the node properties.</li>

Bugs Fixed<br /><ul><li>Crash on Loading 10K + maps.</li>
<li>Channel Select in Maps generated from Displacement was out of order.</li>
<li>Memory Leak on Project Load - Some material_ids auto generated were left hanging.</li>
<li>Distance returned from ray casting at models was sometimes negative, throwing off baking results. All better now.</li>

        <description><![CDATA[There are a number of new features in ShaderMap 4 - Major features include: 16 bit image maps which greatly reduces memory usage, Improved Normal Map, support for 3DS and DAE models, Histogram and Normal Map Radar, Triangle Coloring and Color ID maps from 3D models, Built in Help system, support for legacy plugins, channel toggle in Map Preview, and more.<br /><br />
What's Next? <br /><br />

        <description><![CDATA[This issue has been resolved. Please download the latest update ShaderMap 4.0.2. <br /><br />
--<br /><br />
Some users have reported that SM4 plugins are running slow compared to SM3 versions. This issue has to do with some calculations being done on the 16 bit data types. <br /><br />
We have isolated the problem and are seeing a 230% increase in most cases. An update will be released in the next day or so with this fix. <br /><br />
